This or That

Its the little decisions that seem small that can actually make a room. When the floors are stained, the walls are painted and you have the overall idea of the style and the vibe you want for your home, that may seem like your work is done. But, it’s also when its just getting started.

The actual items that you choose can be so different even when they’re so similar. These schemes that were presented to a client have two differences, the consoles and the mirrors. Both consoles are shagreen and both mirrors are oversized - and if they’re so similar than why is the choice so hard?

The easy part of design is figuring out vaguely what your style is, what feel you want and what you generally gravitate towards. It’s the small choice of brass accents vs. cool silhouette that make your home yours and really define the space.

Classic for a reason

There are some things that just work and why fight it?

Whites, blues, wickers and weathered woods are a recipe for success for any beach house bedroom, especially when located on Nantucket. On an island with so much history, it’s important to draw from the wealth of the culture that surrounds you.

Involving any sort of fun kitchy play on that is always a great touch. Oystershell lamps and covex mirrors that are reminiscent of the portholes on the boats that surround the island since its days as a wailing hub give a fresh but classic spin on a room with original beams and French doors that offer a view of the water.

Modern clean touches keep the room from feeling dated or overdone, a linen wrapped desk and side tables tone down the room keeping it open and airy while letting the statement pieces shine.
